Long Term Care Insurance Proposed Legislation

Many states have legislation pending regarding a Public Long Term Care insurance state mandated program.

If passed in a state, the bill would implement a new payroll tax to help pay for Long Term Care specifically managed by Medicaid. A similar law was passed in Washington state recently. Most state’s  proposals include a provision to split the cost of the tax between the employee and employer.

Like Washington, the proposals state if an employee already has a Long Term Care policy that fulfills the minimum requirements, no tax will be charged for that employee, and therefore the employer. Although no one knows when specific state bills will pass, getting ahead of it is recommended. In Washington state the influx in policies was difficult for some insurers to manage so it’s advised to do your research now.
